Stakeholder Forum and Consultation Dialogue with COMELEC

Last 18 July 2024, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in partnership with the UP Law Center Institute of Government and Law Reform (UP IGLR) held a one-day stakeholders forum and consultation dialogue titled, “A.I. and Philippine Elections Decoded” at the UP College of Law, Diliman, Quezon City.

The event started with a main plenary session that examined the current legal framework of the Philippines and an overview of the International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES) Voluntary Election Integrity Guidelines.

Participants were placed into simultaneous breakout sessions that tackled specific issues surrounding the intersection of A.I. and the Philippine Elections. The sessions each focused on 1) the role of A.I. and technology companies in shaping elections; 2) navigating the intersection of A.I., media, campaign, and electoral integrity; and 3) legal considerations in regulating the use of A.I.  technology in Philippine election campaigns.

The forum yielded several recommendations, solutions, and measures for safeguarding the integrity of Philippine elections amidst the growing technological advances.
