Seminars on Laws and Jurisprudence for Government Agencies

As part of its mandates to enhance the effectiveness and responsiveness of government and to popularize the law to the public, the UP Law Center Institute of Government and Law Reform (UP IGLR) continues to mount lectures and seminars with various government agencies to achieve these ends.

The UP IGLR recently held three seminars aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Land Transportation Office (LTO).

A three-day seminar on Laws and Jurisprudence took place on September 2, 4, and 5, 2024, at the UP Law Complex in Diliman, Quezon City with the PNP. Police officers of various ranks participated in sessions that tackled topics such as Violence Against Women and their Children, Criminal Procedure, Administrative Law, Criminal Law, Cybercrime Law, and Human Rights. With interactive sessions and expert speakers, the seminar fostered a collaborative atmosphere.

The UP IGLR also held a full-day seminar for LTO district officers and law enforcers of Region III at the Royce Hotel in Mabalacat, Pampanga, on September 6, 2024. Various lectures on data privacy, governance, ethics, and special laws related to Land Transportation and the Traffic Code were presented. Attendees left with a better understanding and appreciation of the current advancements in the law and its applicability to their line of work.

Meanwhile, the UP IGLR, in cooperation with the SEC, conducted two batches of a four-day Inclusive Capacity Building and Legal Training Program for SEC personnel. The first batch was held from August 6-9, 2024, and the second from August 27-30 and September 16, 2024.

Personnel from the SEC attended the program, which covered critical updates on the Revised Corporation Code, Financial Products, Investment and Securities, Anti-Money Laundering, Capital Markets, and more. These sessions provided invaluable interaction between participants and lecturers, fostering in-depth discussions on the evolving financial landscape.

The seminars reflect the UP IGLR’s commitment to empowering law enforcement and regulatory personnel with updated legal knowledge to effectively navigate the complex legal, regulatory, and financial environments.
