Trial Chamber IX of the International Criminal Court (“ICC” or “Court”) sentenced Dominic Ongwen to 25 years of imprisonment following the Trial Judgment in which the Chamber found him guilty for a total of 61 crimes comprising crimes against humanity and war crimes, committed in Northern Uganda between 1 July 2002 and 31 December 2005.

On Friday, 7 May 2021, the Prosecutor of the International criminal Court (“ICC” or the “Court”), Mrs Fatou Bensouda and her team met with a high-level delegation from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan at the Seat of the Court led by H.E. Mohammad Haneef Atmar, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Reaffirming its support for reparative justice and the related mandates of the Trust fund for Victims (TFV) at the International Criminal Court (ICC), the Government of Ireland has pledged a voluntary contribution of €300,000 contribution to the TFV this year. This marks a significant increase in its annual contribution, which amounted to €200,000 in 2020, and demonstrates Ireland’s strong support for the TFV and its critical work in support of the reparative justice function of the Rome Statute.

The confirmation hearing in the case The Prosecutor v. Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-Al-Rahman is scheduled to open on 24 May 2021 at 9:30 (The Hague local time) before Pre-Trial Chamber II of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Pre-Trial Chamber II is composed of Judge Rosario Salvatore Aitala (Presiding judge), Judge Antoine Kesia-Mbe Mindua and Judge Tomoko Akane.

On 31 May 2021, H.E. Matthew E.K. Neuhaus, Ambassador of Australia to The Netherlands, and ICC President Judge Piotr Hofmański unveiled a new artwork donation to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, the Netherlands. It was donated by Australia in the context of Australia’s National Reconciliation Week.

Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda will be leaving the International Criminal Court (ICC) due to retirement on June 15 as the Philippines awaits the next move on the drug war case against the Duterte government, which should also be within the same month.
